What year is it mate?

your going to have to split the cases to change the crank and bearings so make sure you have a haynes manual.

most, if not all of those parts are available from eBay, best seller is called "Yambits" and i have often bought my DT parts from him and enver had a rpbolem, postage can be combined on multiple purchases aswell.

just out of interest, how did you manage to do so much damage? :o

ive got a DTMX aswell, so let me know if you need any more help

its a 1983 model.
I know i need to split it all down foamy ;) i've been looking at your DT for sale, its very cheap :)

I dont know how so much damage happened, i'll try and get some pictures :( the piston's bottom half is completely shattered, there's 2-3mm free play on the con-rod; and the teeth on the outside of the clutch basket are half ground-away.

Inside the top half of my piston it looks like its got 2 of the bearing spacers in the top of it (metal pin things?) completely nackered =[. The small end is completly nackered (looks like a mouse has been biting the piston)

Just having trouble getting the clutch basket itself off, lost the holding thing

im afraid my DT is going to be staying for a while, im only going to be keeping it for 7 more months so theres no point getting a new one really, it does the job :)

Its taking me around Republic of Ireland in a couple of months aswell, should test its reliability a bit :P

if the small end is knackered, chances are its worn away the conrod aswell so you will need to replace that if it has, its probably going to be cheaper to buy a second hand DT engine off ebay

if you weren't so far away i'd have been happy to come give you a hand with it!, i probably know my way around my DT better than the blokes what made it!, lol

good way i found to hold the clutch was to put it in 5th gear and put a brick in front of the back wheel

thought his may be of interest to you m8

http://cgi.ebay.co.u...A1%7C240%3A1318

best ask him how much use it has had (mileage) but it looks okay for the price.

if worst comes to worst and that engine is junk, you can scavenge the oil pump, carb and crankshaft and dump the rest

Hi Foamy, just ordered everything I need from site called WeMoto, good service there and fast delivery too. Ordered bigbore kit, con rod kit, thrust washers, gasket set and lh&rh main bearings. Should be here tomorrow or Friday. Managed to lock the clutch by welding a steel rod onto the steel clutch plate. Worked wonders :) might keep that in mind for future projects.

Turns out the pin things were the rollers from the small end. As per my original theory. One of my friends dads has access to a crank thingy aswell so thats sorted

yeah i have a dt mx and im the 10th owner, wehn i bought it it came with all the spares its ever had and that included several piston and barrell kits, aparently these can crack over time so that is not a worry and it gets worse as you use a bore kit, ive been through one piston already as i have an 80cc bore kit.
