I want to get a nice pair of saddle bags for my 07 v-star 1100. Do I need to get the metal frames to go between the bags and the bike to keep the bags from getting into the rear wheels? <_<

Umm...... YES!!!
That's what they're for.

Forgive the sarcasm, but if you have a s/bag and you take a corner, that bag will follow gravity into the wheel.
What happens if you lock up your back wheel in a corner?

I had the same discussion with my other half, albeit far more scathing and sarcastic. She ended up buying the s/bag supports!!
