Doing up a dt175, The engine I had planned on using looks like it has been full of water for 20 years. Lots of surface rust, havn't split the case yet but it looks pretty nasty, the crank won't rotate.
Are engines in this kind of condition worth bothering with? Would it be better to get another worn out engine and use that? I guess what I am asking is does the corrosion present as a big issue or would any machining I need to get likely resolve the rust issue at the same time?

More than likely scrap, you would need to split the cases to investigate it properly but i doubt you will be able to undo the screws so more than likely you would have to drill the heads off them.
